{FAQ} How can my work be protected in Japan?

Copyrights come into existence automatically on your creation of a work.
So, registering your work is not required to secure copyright protection
in Japan. Placing a certain copyright notice*[1] on your work is not required,
either, though such a notice can provide some practical benefits for both
rights holders and the general public.

*[1] The notice typically consists of the copyright symbol © or the word “Copyright,” the name
of the copyright owner or the author, and the year of first publication.
